Datchworth u14's v Hertford B u14's

The u14’s welcomed Hertford B on Sunday for a friendly, played in quarters so both teams could use their full squads.

Hertford took the early lead running down the slope and going two tries up. At the end of the second quarter Datchworth pulled a try back with a well taken effort by Alex Dean scoring his first try for the club. After the half time break Datchworth used the slope well with Samuel Elvery breaking a number of tackles and then running clear to score the levelling try. He was chased all the way by the his former team mate Robert Holman who alongside Dominic Vaughan were playing for Hertford having left Datchworth in the summer.

The match was ultimately won with the outstanding play of the game Datchworth secured clean scrum ball wide on the right and the backs then showed their passing skills passing the ball right to left with the stand in full back Christopher Saunders crashing over in the corner. A series of penalties put Datchworth under pressure in the final moments but the team made a number of tackles and showed great spirit to hang on for the first win of the season.

The forwards put in some great work and put Hertford under pressure throughout the game and Tom Howard had a good game stepping in to play playing scrum half for the first time. Thanks to Woody for refereeing the match.

Next week the u 14’s are away to Saracens B in the league.
