Hertford B u 14's v Datchworth u14's

The under 14’s County Cup match with Hertford ended in a hard fought win 3 – 7.

The game was re arranged to be played at Hertford with Datchworth holding on to go through to face Old Albanians in the semi -final at the end of February.

Hertford started the game very well benefitting from a full warm up against their A team and their good start was rewarded with a penalty to go 3 – 0 up. However the game changed with the Datchworth side showing some good attack in wet conditions with breaks from Sam Elvery and Dean Carmicheal, George Little had a good run covering half the field but they were unable to make the final plays count and missed the opportunity to turn the pressure into points.

However they were rewarded when James Hunter crashed over from short range following some hard yards up front from the pack, he then converted his own try for a 3 – 7 lead.

The final quarter of the game saw Datchworth defending a succession of penalties despite dominating territory which only served to raise the spirit in the side and the final whistle was met with a great celebration.

Man of the match was Theo Wise, always a threat in attack but outstanding in defence this week, the Champagne moment was awarded to Laurence Pope who again was rewarded for a brave tackle preventing a potential breakaway try.
