Datch u14s v Letchworth - 12/03/2017 – Won 12-5

Datch earned a hard fought victory against their local rivals. This was a game where Datch had to dig deep and showed real grit and determination to run out worthy winners.

Olly T led the pack from the front and reliably assisted by Kieran-they both carried the ball strongly and were committed in the tackle.

The Chuckle Brothers (Ben and Oscar) with Elliot were all over the park to help keep the attackers out.

We have found new players and they all showed what they can do with strong performances from front row from Archie and Finlay. Will was also versatile playing 2nd row and back row.

Max and Tayden also had strong games on the wing as well. The backs were released by Nick and Brandon again linking well at half back.

Ollie B gave away the penalty that led to the Letchworth try but then made up for this error by charging down the conversion and scoring both Datch tries. Angus slotted home 1 conversion to complete the scoring.

There was superb defence from the whole squad (not very often I get to say that but we had 18 players !!) ,illustrated by Rhys who made 2 tackles straight after each other to prevent what looked like a certain try.

You could see from the reaction when we scored our second try what a win meant to each and every Datch player after a massive effort from all of them.

Summary

As a team we defended strongly today and there were two Man of the Matches , in the backs Max for his great cover tackles and strong running. In the forwards it went to Kieran for his 2nd half display which was outstanding.

Still things to work on (running lines , scrums , getting to know each other !) but a cracking win which we showed the spirit that this team has !
