Datch u14s v 2017 Tour - 30/04/2017

Friday

There were staggered arrivals as the Datch cars struggled with the Norfolk transport system but we did all eventually arrive and got settled in.

The boys looked resplendent in their tour tops and moustaches and enjoyed the challenge of egg pong. Note to self : eggs smell and make a mess.

The boys then had a quiet evening and went to bed about 21:30. Parents joined them at about 21.35.

Saturday

Up early for breakfast and then the boys were split into two groups and did Laser , Aero ball and Climbing.

Lunch was followed by a trip to the nearby beach to play cricket and then a game of touch where the parents were given a lesson in rugby by the youngsters who ran out winners 10-9. Alistair (Rhys' dad) showed us exactly where Rhys gets his pace from!

I will pass on the contact details of all the parents to the 3rd team Captain as we have some talented parents , …......er …....maybe not !!

Then back for some food and off to the Go-Karts where we spent an hour racing around the track which was enjoyed by all. Fastest laps times were collated and the winners were : First place : Archie , 2nd : Euan 3rd place : Rhys.

If there had been a prize for the best Hawaiian outfit it would have been shared by the father/son combination of the Tatlows , who looked like native islanders , awesome effort by everyone and I thought we looked pretty good.

Then back for the Court session and when re sit on our U15s tour everyone knows what Kieron's will be found guilty of !

The sentences were delivered by the sitting judge who passed judgment on a number of heinous crimes.

Definition of heinous : very bad and shocking

As we had an important game on the Sunday the boys discussed tactics and then went straight to bed at 21:30. Parents a bit later at 21.45.

Sunday

The opposition were massive. Its hard to do justice to how large most of their players were (there was one with a beard who was pretty big but he wasn't the biggest !), I am going to do some research into the diet of the Norfolk population because surely this must hold the key to why they are so big and perhaps we can then feed up our chaps?

This was a game where each and every Datch player stood up to be counted, we scored some fines tries from Harry , Will and Finn (1 conversion added by Angus) , to narrowly lose 22-17. I could not have been prouder of the effort that they put into this game.

Man of the match went to Will who capped a fine display with a nicely taken try.

This was a physical game and the players will be feeling sore tomorrow. Ben was taken to A&E but has been given the all clear which was great to hear. Not the way we wanted the weekend to end but better to be safe than sorry and get him checked over.

Injury lists includes Rhys , Oscar, Olly Tatlow , Tayden , Harry and self inflicted Kieron , we wish them all a speedy recovery.

Summary

It was great to chat with all the parents over the weekend , sharing a shandy and get to know them that much better. Next year the parents may need a few training sessions though as fitness levels were not great !

Thanks again to Mandi , our Tour Director for organizing a great weekend and for ensuring that Ben was given the support he needed at A&E.
