Hard fought game ends with a well earnt draw.

Match report by Icarus Bryant-Fowler:

Datchworth (14) 26 v. 26 (14) Letchworth
A really good effort from the boys today, against a team in a pool above us in the league.
Within 5 mins of the start Datchworth were 10-0 down, having conceded two quick tries through not being awake really. The boys then realised they had a game of rugby to play and began to raise their work rate. The forwards began to impose themselves, and the work that Phil has being doing on getting the ball moving began to show dividend. Datchworth drove and moved the ball well and worked really hard, pulling back two well worked tries, to end the first half at 14 all.
Datchworth started the second half well, dominating possession and territory, and took a deserved lead. We continued to press forward, but being brutally honest, left a couple of chances out on the field, through handling errors, and white line fever among certain players. Letchworth fought back well, and Datchworth could never exert dominance. Unfortunately Letchworth were unable to field a full front row for the second half, so we had to move to uncontested scrums. (Very French I joked with their coach)
In the end, a draw was a fair result. As one parent said to me after the game, if the boys had gone 10-nil down in the first 10 mins last year, they would have turned on themselves and lost by a cricket score. The fact that that they kept their heads up, did not give up and dominated the rest of the game, speaks volumes for the way the boys have progressed and grown as a team. They made a birthday boy (old man) very proud.
