Herts County U-14 Plate Final
Hertford B 10 v 24 Datchworth
A hard fought win for the green army that brought our season to an end with some well deserved silverware.
The boys really raised their game for their final game of the season, and scored 4 tries against a strong Hertford B side in windy but dry conditions at Hertford RFC.
The two sides took their time trying to gain the upper hand in the first quarter of the game. Slowly, having absorbed early Hertford pressure, the Datchworth team slowly began to force their way up field through forwrd power. Hertford defended valiently, twice preventing Datchworth from crossing their tryline. Eventually the green army were able to force their way over the whitewash and made the first score.
Hertford fought back hard, and equalised quickly. However, Datchworth rose to the challenge and were able to score again before half time, to give a 5-10 score to Datchworth at the break.
In the third quarter Dacthworth raised their game and the scrum became more dominant, pushing the Hertford eight off their ball on a couple of occasions. As the forwards domination increased, so the backs were able to run the ball. Two converted tries gave Datchworth some breathing space with less than 10mins to go.
Still Hertford did not give up, but due to a monumental defensive effort from the boys in green, they were unable to turn pressure into points. Then with the final move of the match Hertford manged to force their way across the Datchworth try line for a consolation score. Thankfully for Datchworth, in did not matter as they ran out winners 10 v 24.
The match was played in a great spirit overall with the best Hertford player being an ex-Datchworth boy being treated to some good natured ribbing after having been targetted by his schoolmates during the game.
Well done to all the boys. Everyone of you has made a contribution to the season, and I can only hope that we continue the progression we have made this season next year.
