Old Verulamium's (5) 5 v. 12 (0) Datchworth
A hard fought, and to be honest, scrappy win, in unhelpful conditions, against a spirited OVs side who pushed Datchworth all the way. The boys took at least the whole of the first half to get into the game. Whether it was because we were playing uphill first, or we thought that after the last result today would be easy, I do not know. Suffice to say the we absorbed a lot of pressure from OVs, who fought hard for every scrap of possession. Datchworth help out for most of the first half, and only conceded a try at the very end of the half.
In the second half, Datchworth began to impose themselves on the game, and began to dominate both possession and territory, as the slope and wind were now in their favour. The result was two tries scored, and a couple of chances wasted ( see DoD award)
In the final few minutes, OVs won some turnover ball and exerted some real pressure onto the Datchworth try line. As against Hampstead, the boys put in a real defensive effort, and managed to shut the OVs out.
Man of the Match - William Lowe for consistent effort, strong running and scoring a try.
Richard of the Day - Dean for breaking through, with the try line at his mercy and touching the ball down feet short. Should have gone to Specsavers!!
