Datchworth U-14s (7) 40 v 12 (12) Enfield Ignations
To borrow a cliché from the round ball game, that was a game of two halves. Playing into a strong wind in the first half, Datchworth started very slowly, with rucking and tackling an, at times, seemingly, optional extra!! Enfield, who scraped 15 players from U-13, U-14 and U-15 boys, drove hard and with a Datchworth player with them for the first 20mins, turned Datchworth over a few times. Despite all the pressure though, Datchworth only conceded the two tries, and once they finally worked out that hard work was required to drive upfield against the wind, manged to pull one back, meaning that we turned round only 5 points adrift.
With the wind at their backs, Datchworth were a different side in the second half, and in a blistering 10 mins, put 3 tries past a shell shocked Enfield, who could not cope with the renewed vigour Datchworth showed.
Enfield tried to come back, but Datchworth had woken up by now, and were able to cope with whatever Enfield threw at them, counter rucking, winning turnover ball and breaking the gain line almost at will. The result was an emphatic 33 unanswered points scored.
A great effort from the boys, with everyone making a contribution, either with ball in hand, or tackling or rucking. Every member of the team contributed to a great win.
Man of the Match went to Bartosz, for a fine all round effort.
DOTD went to two players, Ieuan for forgetting that he was meant to play scrum-half for a period last week, and George for throwing the ball away too often in the difficult conditions
