OVs (10) 22 v. 29 (12) Datchworth
A great result for all the boys, that leaves us played 3 won 3 in our pool so far. A superb all round effort from the boys this week, that more than made up for the defeat against the same opposition in our first match of the season way back in September. The fact that we had 5 different try scorers speaks volumes for all round team performance shown today. We tried different combinations, and boys in new positions on the field, and all showed promise.
As is my want, I will not name the try scorers, on the principle that it is a team game, and the team scores the try, not the individual. Suffice to say that two of the boys got their name on the score sheet for the first time this year, and one cost his dad £20!
The aggressive rucking and defensive work from the team meant that OVs had to work really hard to cross their gain line. At the same time we were able punch holes through their defence and move quick ball to create space and overlaps.
In our never ending quest for improvement, passing, ball retention and first up tackling need further work, but the team effort can not be faulted. It was noticed by the coaches that all the players are becoming more vocal on the pitch, calling plays and supporting their team mates. Leaders are beginning to emerge. Keep it up boys.
Man of the Match was George for his all round effort.
Richard of the Day was won before kick off by Jack C for leaving his kit at home and sending his dad back to Stevenage to collect it.
New Nickname of the week goes to William 'Wallace' Lowe, for having the wrong trousers!!
