Barnet Elizabethans – a game of three thirds!

On a beautifully sunny morning, we welcomed Barnet Elizabethans to Datchworth for our final game ahead of the Herts County Tournament, and ended with mixed fortunes on the day, recording an L, a W and a D.

First game was a 3-5 Win to Barnet, with our tries coming from Joshua Staddon (2) and William Field. It was a lacklustre affair by all accounts, with our lads’ heads not completely switched on as yet.

In the second game, clearly the boys had learned their lesson from the pep talk after the first, and really turned on the style. With tries coming from William Field (3), Finlay Kelly, Joshua Staddon and Spencer Bayford, we were able to record a much better result of a 6-1 Win to Datch. We saw some good rugby during this game, with some lovely offloading in contact, and quick ball away from the breakdown. We’ll need to see more of this next week if we are to proceed through the Pool stages.

After a short break, we decided to have a third match which was drawn 2-2 with our tries coming this time from Willam Bacon and the unstoppable force that is Joshua Staddon.

For his outstanding performance of the morning, including tackle after tackle after tackle, Joshua Staddon took the Player of the Week trophy this week – congratulations Josh – well deserved!
