Datchworth U10's win at Stevenage

Datchworth U10's win at Stevenage

Phil Goff3 Nov 2013 - 15:56

Datchworth U10's continued their recent run of success with a convincing win against Stevenage.

On a cold, blustery morning away at Stevenage, a great turnout from the Datchworth U10's squad meant we were able to field a full strength team against Stevenage Town RFC. Low numbers on Stevenage's side meant we played the first game as the main event, and then mixed things up in the second game, even lending some of our players to Stevenage to support their injuries and tired players.

While the rugby wasn't necessarily the prettiest we've seen from the boys of late, and some work at training will for sure need to be taken to get us pulling together as a team once again, 3 powerful tries from Isaac Byrne and 2 more coming from jinking runs once again from William Field were enough to take the win 25-5, meaning the boys are undefeated so far this season in terms of their first games played at matches.

Strong defensive tackling from all of the boys helped to ensure Stevenage crossed our line just once (including a great tackle from young Cameron Smith) and some lovely runs from among others Spencer Bayford, Joshua Staddon & William Field opened up the defence several times. Powerful carries into contact from Matthew Rates, Thomas Beechey and Isaac Byrne with good presentation of the ball at the ruck was also good to see.

In the second half, the ball was being moved around some more, but we need to see more of that, as well as ensuring those passes are accurate to ensure we can remain successful as the season progresses.

As always there's more work to be done for sure, but keep it up Datchworth Under 10's - your progress is fantastic!
