Mike Styles passing.

Dear Datchworth Members,

It is with a heavy heart that I am passing on the tragic news of one of the clubs great stalwarts Mike Styles passing away peacefully in his sleep.

Mike was an integral cog in the emergence of our great club and played in our very first match against Tottenham Old Grammarians, in addition to this Mike held many roles in the club over the years, Chairman, Vice -Chairman and, as a builder, he undertook the very first major extension to the clubhouse which added changing rooms, showers and a plunge bath, his expertise was imperative and totally voluntary and selfless along with this he held the roles of Rugby and DSC treasurer for many years.

Mike loved Rugby and at Datchworth he enjoyed his role as club linesman and was very enthusiastic on the touchline and let anyone listening know what he thought, who can forget his exuberant voice of opinion with the referee after the Welwyn game a few years ago I think the referee is still in shock!

Mike was a kind and welcoming gentleman to all that joined the club and he will be sadly missed by all who knew him at the club and across the County including the refs.

The DSC and Rugby section community would like to send their condolences and sympathies to Anne and their family for their sad loss.

Thank you Mike for all your time and efforts that you gave the club over the years and all voluntary with a lot of the great work going unnoticed.

Rest in peace Mike and may God rest your soul.

With deepest sympathy

Neal Jeromson
Chairman Datchworth RFC
