u16s Girls - Datchworth v Hertford

The u16s travelled to Hertford to start their league campaign with an early morning kick off. Thank you to our hosts for putting girls rugby on centre stage and giving two of the newest Girls Rugby clubs a chance to show the depth of ability now present in the county.

There was a mix of novice and experienced players on both teams including some girls playing in their first ever competitive fixture. The leaders on the pitch gave structure and created a platform for the newcomers to find their feet. By the end of the match, every single player had made a positive contribution and gained confidence. It was a well balanced contest, played with all core rugby values on display. The score was close throughout with both teams exchanging tries and the game ending 17-15 to Datchworth.

Notable performances from Lils at scrum-half who made some excellent choices on her debut in that position, Reece who was fearless and relentless as our Openside and our debutants Tegan and Brooke. All three tries came from a sustained period of attack from the team, which is testament to how well they worked together across the pitch, forwards and backs. Congrats to our try scorers Claudia, Sophia and Kayla and also to Ash who converted and allowed us to remain in front for the win.

Thanks also to Letchworth players Sienna and Freya who joined us for the fixture, boosting our strength across the forwards and backs.

We look forward to hosting Hertford later in the season in what I'm sure with be another fine display of rugby.
