Wisbech 29 - 6 Datchworth

Datchworth made the long journey to Wisbech to play in the National Cup this week.

The men in green started the game sluggishly, handing the home Side early possession and territory. Good link play between Wisbech's forwards and backs led to an attacking line out 10 metres out. Wisbech set up a driving maul which Datchworth managed to collapse, however, the second wave of Wisbech's forwards came round the corner and crashed over the line scoring the first try of the game, handing the home side a 7-0 lead.

This early pressure gave Datchworth the kick start they needed and came firing out of the blocks from the restart. Some crunching tackles from Datchworth, most notably Billy Gatfield, led to the turnover Datchworth needed and they were able to work their way up the pitch. Datch entered the home sides 22 and the pressure finally forced Wisbech to give away a penalty. Tom Wood elected to take a shot at the posts which he converted.

Datchworth stayed on top for the rest of the first half, controlling the game well. However the visitors were unable to make is pressure tell and could only collect another 3 point before half time, leaving the score 7-6 at the break.

Datchworth started the second half well but at around 60 minutes into the game Wishbech's superior fitness started to tell. Holes began appearing in Datchworth's defence which the home side were capitalising on. The Wisbech forwards started to dominate the breakdown and were stretching Datch's Defence. The Lack of fitness meant Wisbech broke the greens line 3 times in the second half and the score ended 29-6.

Next week Datchworth play Old Streetonians in the league. Hopefully they can improve on their second half performance.
