Datchworth go top after securing bonus point win

Datchworth made it two from two, winning an early kick off at Acton 5 tries to 0. They took an early lead from a driving line out, prop Sam McBroom getting the try, captain Tom Wood could not add the extras. The ref was very hot at the breakdown and this saw a flurry of early penalty exchanges seeing Datchworth go 8-3 up. They soon followed up with their second try of the game, a dominant scrum pushed Actonians over the line and left Wood to touch the ball down, again unfortunately he couldn’t add the extras. Datchworth managed to get a third before half time, using their dominance up front to great effect. Some barraging runs from McBroom saw Datchworth march up the pitch and win a penalty. They decided to take the scrum and their confidence was rewarded when they scored a second push over try, Wood again getting the honours. He followed up with a successful conversion.

The second half was a similar story, early penalty exchanges before Datchworth secured their bonus point win. Henry Mountain got the move going after beating two defenders before squeezing in an outrageous ‘Sonny-Bill-esque’ offload. Datchworth again won a penalty on Actonians 5 metre and Mountain then got the score. Actonians felt aggrieved and their Scrum-Half was given a red card for talking back to the referee. Tom Bennett was then substituted for Datchworth as he was struggling fitness wise, which saw a reshuffle in the back line. This seemed to work as a well-orchestrated move saw wing James Watt go 2 on 1 with the Actonians Winger, only for him to not to pass at the crucial moment which saw the opportunity squandered. Nick Holland was then subbed with 5 minutes to go after a mesmerising performance of leadership, strength & dominance at the line out. There was still time for one more try, John Scarrett scoring from a push-over scrum, Woody converting.

Next week see’s Datchworth travel to London Nigerians who are also unbeaten, 1pm kick off.
