Datchworth score six tries in rout at Wasps

Datchworth went to visit bottom side Wasps Saturday knowing that nothing less than a win would do having lost their last three games. It took only ten minutes to score their first try. Dominant forward play saw the ball shipped wide to centre Alex Nolan who found a gap in the defence and slipped through, captain Tom Wood couldn't add the extras. From the ensuing kick off, no 8. Henry Mountain-Nose caught the ball, blitzed through the opposition and was left two on one with the full back. He enticed his opposite number offloading to flanker Stuart Young, who had his whole entourage in support, to crash over. Wood added the two. Datchworth thereafter scored their third, Wood sniping at the breakdown to make the score 19-0.

Wasps were keen to make their own impression before half time and did so. Mountain-Nose infringed at the breakdown and then some lacklustre defence saw Wasps skip through. There was still time for Datchworth to score their bonus point before time. In only his second first team appearance, centre Richard Mills swerved three tackles with some elusive running to see the half time score reach 26-5.

Datchworth added a fifth after 55 minutes after an uneventful start to the second half. Stuart Young, handsomely cheered on by his support managed to create havoc in the opposition 22 and score his second of the game. Datchworth then almost scored the try of the match. A well worked move from their own try line which saw pretty every player touch the ball saw Datchworth on Wasps line. With only wing Joe Richardson (on for Craig Rowlinson) to touch the ball down, he knocked on to everyone's horror. Wasps then knocked over a penalty.

With five minutes to go Datchworth scored their sixth and final try of the game. Debutant and man of the match contender Max Hobbit Stannard shuffled through the opposite line to cap a fine performance. Unfortunately this performance wasn't matched by him in the bar later, Datchworth running out winners 44 points to 8. Next week Datchworth host St Albans, 2pm kick off.
