...to snatch a draw and a credible two points from the jaws of defeat. Bank of England went into half time with 6-0 lead, their scrum half with some fine penalty kicking in what proved to be a physical first 40 minutes.
The first half saw Datchworth playing into the wind, up the hill and they came close to the visitors try lines several times, however kept falling just short. This pattern epitomised by prop Sam McBroom’s inspired 60 metre break, only to be tackled 3 metres short of the try line.
The second half saw two further penalties to see Bank extend their lead and left Datchworth with their backs to the wall. The hosts piled on the pressure and this finally told, Bank having not one but two of their players sin binned for foul play. After continuing pressure, second row Mark Holgate bundled over after some great pod work to bring the men in green within five points with four minutes to go.
From kick off, the hosts returned the ball effectively, finding the space captain Matthew Francis made a break and offloaded to Joe Richardson, who finished devastatingly levelling the scores. Unfortunately fly half Sam Brunton didn’t succeed with the tricky conversion leaving Datchworth with a well earned two points.
