Datchworth claimed back to back wins for the first time this season as they ground out a hard fought win against high flyers London Nigerians. Starting down the hill, Datchworth immediately slotted a penalty (Sam Brunton) giving them an early lead.
The men in green showed their dominance up front - in the scrum, the line and at break down time and soon made this dominance tell. 5 metres out, a burly effort from the Datchworth scrum saw captain and number eight Matthew Francis dive over the line to give the hosts an 8-0 lead. London Nigerians did hit back before half time meaning Datchworth went into the second half with a one point lead - 8-7.
Datchworth controlled the game superbly in the second half, grinding Nigerians down (despite the sin binning of Dave Bartlett) and will hold their heads high following such a strong performance. Fly half Brunton slotting every penalty but one, a late Nigerians penalty was too much leaving Datchworth well deserved winners.
