Datchworth's first home league game of the season was a tough encounter in which they showed great spirit in the second half, though let themselves down initially. Not knowing what Old Priorians would offer, the visitors took Datch by suprise and after a penalty and two early
tries (capitalising on Datchworth mistakes) found themselves 15-0 up. Dathchworth came back into the game strongly and got themselves on the scoresheet with a penalty, but just as half time approached a break by Old Priorians saw their winger bundle over in the corner to open quite a considerable lead.
Datchworth came out firing on all cylinders in the second half and it didn't take them too long to get their first try. A constant bombardment of OP's defence eventually took it's toll and after several
players coming up just short of the line, Captain Matthew Francis leaped with his arm extended and managed to get the ball down on the line. Tom Wood slotted a fantastic conversion and it was game on. Datchworth continued in similar vein and this led to two Old Priorian's forwards seeing yellow in quick succession for continually giving way penalties. Strong forward work led to full back Joe Richardson diving over in the corner and it was game on!
From kick off Priorian's knocked on allowing for a Datchworth scrum. From the first phase from the set play, miss-communication led to the ball being picked up by OP's and they were straight under the posts for their bonus point try - soon followed up by their fifth and final try of the game, a great team counter attack from their own 22.
Datchworth find themselves away at Finchley next week looking to build on a strong second half in which many positives can be drawn.
