Datchworth RFC 44 – 5 Harringey Rhinos RFC

Building on a positive performance last week against Norwich, Datchworth carried forth the momentum into Saturday’s league clash with Harringey and they failed to disappoint, securing the bonus point within 20 minutes. From kick off the hosts pressed Harringey, forcing early mistakes up front and missed an initial penalty attempt, this however proved not to be too important. Scoring 8 tries in all – braces from James Watt and Tom Nesbitt-Larking as well as individual efforts from Adam Scanlon, Tom Bennett, Stuart Wilkins and Jamie ‘Pumba’ Smith, the score would have been higher but for a rare off day for Tom Wood with the boot at fly-half.

Datchworth made their dominance at set piece time count throughout the match – regularly stealing opposition ball at line out time or winning balls’ against the head at scrum time and this set up a solid platform for the Datchworth backs to strut their stuff. Try of the game however must go to James Watt for a superb solo effort in which his dazzling feet left the Harringey winger absolutely dumfounded to score under the posts. Harringey scored a deserved consolation at the death but it was not to be as Datchworth came out as emphatic bonus point winners.

Next week a huge local grudge match as Datchworth take on high flying Welwyn at Hobbs Way.
