Datchworth scrape win vs Haringey

After loosing to Barnet the week before Datch knew they had to beat Haringey to achieve their goal of finishing in the top half of the table this season.

The game started and from the outset it was clear it was never going to be Datchworth's day. A combination of poor skills and Datchworth conceding lots of penalties in the contact zone, meant the first 20 minutes were mainly spent in Datchworth's half. The home side capitalised on this pressure and their kicker was able to convert twice to make the score 6-0 in Haringey's favour.

The visitors tried to change their approach and stop the stupid penalties that the official seemed to be giving anytime a Datchworth player entered a ruck, but they still seemed to be getting marched back 10 meters after every few phases. The fact Datchworth gave away so many penalties during the match is testament to how good their defence actually was but this still wasn't helping the score line. Just before half time a Haringey lineout was fizzed out to their backs and an inside ball from their fly-half was expertly intercepted by scrum half Grant Roe. Roe was clear with only the full back to beat threw a pass to fly half Tom Wood to score under the posts. Wood converted, leaving the score at 7-6.

The game ended 7-6 with the second half consisting mainly of Datchworth giving away more penalties and defending their line. Although Haringey never really looked like scoring, their kicker had a change to win the game with the last play of the game but missed the kick. This was clearly a day for Datchworth to forget and put right on the training pitch on Tuesday.
