Bonus point victory sends Imperial down and Datchworth up into the top half of the table.

Datchworth secured a four try bonus point win on the Saturday to leave them to put them firmly back in the top half of the table. The opposition had some skilled players though a stronger game plan and structure from the home team led to their domination of the game. An early missed penalty from Tom Wood was not to be rued as Datchworth soon followed up with the first try of the game. After strong scrumaging, wing James Watt burst through the static Medicals backline and offloaded to Henry Mountain to score in the corner, the extras not added on this occasion.
This seemed to ignite the opposition into a comeback and that they did with two tries of their own. Firstly, good phase play around the ruck led to their number 8 bundling over. Soon after, a well worked backs move saw them double their score moving to a 12-5 lead. Not to be deterred, Datchworth hit back with impressive play straight from the training ground. Having got a nudge on at scrum time, a well-executed set piece saw wing James Watt explode through to score under the sticks, meaning the sides went in level at half time.
The second half was in stark contrast to the first, a one sided affair in which Datchworth dominated proceedings. From the restart, Datchworth applied pressure which led to fly-half Tom Wood slotting a well taken drop goal. Soon after, a barrage of constant forward pressure and phase work saw flanker Marcus Potter score his debut try for the club, Tom Wood with the extras. There was still time for the bonus point try – a second for centre Henry Mountain under the posts saw Datchworth run out worthy winners 29-12.
Saturday sees Datchworth’s final game of the season at home to London New Zealand, traditionally a tasty affair, with a 3pm kick off.
