In a perfect storm of Covid, availability, and injury the players who took the field put in a great effort, not least playing the full 80 minutes with no replacements. In a game that saw Datchworth well in the fight for 70 but sadly conceded 4 tries at the end to cement a good win for the hosts with their forwards asserting dominance at the end.
From the first whistle, Datchworth conceded a string of penalties in the opening minutes which gave Enfield a straightforward opportunity to build an early lead. When Nick Moore, deputising in the back row along with Matt Hankin and James Watt, was yellow-carded for the accumulated penalties Datchworth found themselves under pressure.
In the early stages of the second half, Datchworth were playing the best Rugby of the game with both backs and forwards putting together multi-phase attacks and stretching the hosts. At that time it looked like the game could be tight. However, with fresh legs coming on in the latter stages adding new impetus to the home side's attacks Ignatians were able to cut through the Datchworth defence and put the game out of sight by the end.
Enfield ran out 42 v 6 winners for a well-deserved win with their number 8 having a very good carrying and offloading game. For Datchworth the three guys stepping in at back-row deserve a good deal of credit as do the new-look front row playing the full game and ensuring the fixture was able to be played.
Onwards and upwards, with next Sat seeing Datchworth play host to Old Priorians.
