Hemel Hempstead and Arthurian myth are not perhaps the most obvious combination. But so itvwas that 18 brave souls headed down the A1(M) to Camelot. It turned out to be a performance worthy of legend.

We got on the score board first courtesy of Fin Lowles and some hard team graft getting us down the right end of the pitch. The tries after that came thick and fast from both sides. Chi scored an absolute blinder running one end to the other, but better than that even, were his two incredible try saving tackles. Unfortunately, it was third time unlucky, and he took a nasty knock but only after a truly heroic performance.

There were heroes though all over the pitch. Harry had a magnificent game at second row making invaluable carries and tackles and Niko
was solid on the wing. Particular shout outs also to the 5 U14s each of whom were superb - it’s testament to them that one forgets they are playing up. Enzo not only played up, but also played out, and had almost too good a stint helping out Camelot. Back to the try scorers and in the
second half Stefan got over the line with a devastatingly powerful run from a penalty, whilst Benji scored brilliantly under the posts after more side steps than a salsa class. Make no mistake this was an excellent team performance.

Oli and Felix were superb as ever but the all round effort was perhaps typified by the forwards catch and drive off a line out from the 22. It was only fitting that it was scored again by Fin. Sam Hale’s conversion from right out wide into the wind was the cherry on the cake. At times we let them run at us a bit too much and we fell off a few tackles. But this was a well-deserved win. King Arthur and the knights of the round table would have been proud of the scenes at RFC Camelot. We wish Chi a speedy recovery!
