In very wet conditions which suited Finchley's powerful pack, the game started with even exchanges until the Finchley 8 crashed over to score with the conversion added.

The game was starting to look like being dominated by the tight forward game of Finchley when Owen McGillivray turned the tide by intercepting a pass at pace from halfway and out running the defence to score under the posts, to make it 5-7.

Datchworth's forwards kept up their relentless tackling ,ably supported by the backline despite facing a much bigger & heavier side. Then Connor Harris took a crash ball and broke through the Finchley defence, making good ground and finding a perfectly timed pass to James Wilson who raced over the line with James Hunter adding the extras to make it 12-7.

As the weather subsided, Datchworth were able to move the ball more effectively and following a good move to get the ball wide Wilson looked like he might score again only for a fine last gasp tackle, the ball however was recycled and Jon Coultas picked up and using his Herculean strength drove over the line with 3 or 4 defenders failing to stop him.

The game wasn’t over as Finchley came back hard and forced Datchworth into a massive defensive effort for the last 5 minutes before Dom Negri happily kicked the ball into touch and a well earned victory was secured with McGillivray picking up a deserved Man of the Match award along with the days Champagne Moment.
