Harpenden Colts B (0) 7 – 8 (0) Datchworth Colts
Another win for the Green Army against a very well match Harpenden Side, coached by a former Datchworth player Tim Day
The game was definitely one for the rugby connoisseur, as both teams just could not exert any dominance, and defences cancelled out each other’s attacking threat. While the Datchworth forwards again more than held their own, the backs are acquiring a bad habit of failing to make the final pass, and squandering scoring opportunities. The first half ebbed and flowed as both teams searched for that elusive final pass. Neither manged to make a score, and half time came with no score from either side.
In the second half, Datchworth manged to exert a period of dominance, and set up camp in the Harpenden half. But time and again, the final pass was panicked, and possession thrown away. Eventually, having been unable to score from a series of penalties in the Harpenden 22, when awarded a penalty in front of the posts, Datchworth took the opportunity to put points on the board, and took a 0-3 lead.
Harpenden came fighting back and worked their way up field. One near certain try scoring opportunity was held up following a fantastic race back by Matthew and Ieuan, who manged to put their bodies on the line and held the Harpenden centre up over the line. Eventually, Harpenden managed to put a series of phases and passes together and created a well worked try, which they converted to take a 7-3 lead.
Datchworth then fought their way back and finally manged to string their own set of phases and passes together and broke down the wing and scored a try thanks to some fantastic support work from our full back
Try as they might, Harpenden could not keep possession on the final minutes and Datchworth manged to close the game out and secure a hard fought and narrowest of wins
Man of the Match: Kit for fantastic support run for the winning try.
