The green army remain unbeaten in their league!

Datchworth Colts 19 (7) v. (0) 7 Luton.
.
A win is a win, as some say, and Datchworth ground out a hard fought win today against a spirited Luton side, who failed to cave in as some of the Datchworth players assumed they would. In the first half, Datchworth gained the upper hand in the tight, but squandered a lot of possession in the backs by constantly throwing bad passes or knocking on. Luton fought for every scrap of possession they had, and were a real nuisance at the breakdown. The first half was quite even, as much as Datchworth tried to build pressure, they constantly let Luton off the hook by failing to string more than a couple of phases together. The only points in a tense first half came from a well anticipated interception from the Datchworth fly-half as Luton tried to pass the ball out from in front of their posts. At least two other tries were not made due to handling errors or players getting white line fever and not giving a final pass to a man in the clear.
In the second half Datchworth just could not exert the dominance that their forwards fought for. Time and again bad ball was thrown away, passes were rushed and mistakes resulted in turnovers. Datchworth did managed to finally extend their lead when our prop finally manged to do what he had failed to do in the first half and cross for a try after concerted forward pressure for 3 or 4 phases. If Datchworth thought Luton would then capitulate, they were in for a rude awakening. Luton fought their way up field and scored a well worked try out wide, which was excellently converted.
Datchworth finally began to realise that they had the better of the Luton backs and began to move the ball with a semblance of fluidity. The result was our try of the season so far, as the ball was worked from right to left to give the Datchworth left wing a good score, which he then converted from the touchline.
Datchworth the managed to absorb some extended Luton pressure and clear their lines to maintain their unbeaten run in the league. Thanks to Tony Leake for stepping in at the last minute today to referee, excellent work as always.
Man of the Match: Dean for several turnovers, excellent lineout work and overall effort
Dick of the Day: Jamie, for our second yellow card in as many weeks
