Datchworth RFC u15's v Ongar RFC u15's

The u15’s hosted Ongar RFC for a friendly and recorded another good win 31 – 17.

It was a game Datchworth were committed to win to send Finton O’Bierne on his way to Australia with a great final memory of his time at Datchworth having started back in the under 7’s. Finton captained the side and they all delivered a fine performance in difficult conditions.

The visitors took an early lead playing with the wind in the first half despite some good defence and a couple of missed opportunities for Datchworth but their 12 -0 advantage was cut when Datchworth rounded off a great passage of play with a try. Further tries from Arron Livingstone, Theo Wise, Dominic Negri (2) and Owen Macgillivray saw Datchworth take control of the game early in the second half now playing with the wind and using it well with some good tactical kicking although Ongar put up a fight towards the end of the game.

Datchworth again showed a resolute spirit in defence however after a succession of penalties Ongar crashed over the line on the last play of the game.

The Datchworth forwards again put in a great display against a bigger pack with Dean Carmichael winning countless turnovers at the tackle and Christopher Saunders enjoying his best ever form effective at the lineout and making numerous tackles around the field as did his other flanker Arron King, rounding off a good morning for the back row Dominic Negri finished off a great team try then raced a good 60 metres from the base of a scrum to show his undoubted ability, the team collectively enjoyed the moment making sure Finton ended with a fitting win.
