Tightest of Cup Games

The U15’s travelled to Hemel for the Herts County Cup and while earning a 10 – 10 draw went out on the the tries scored rule. However getting through to the next round was largely irrelevant as Datchworth again produced a performance to be proud of.

Coming up against a full strength League 3 side Datchworth were put under huge pressure in the opening minutes and Hemels work at the breakdown and commitment was correctly rewarded with a powerful try. From this point Datchworth came back into the game and defended well and when the chance came put together some good attacks despite the difficult conditions.

Into the second half James Hunter broke the line evaded a couple of defenders and managed to get under the posts then duly slotted the conversion to put Datchworth in front. The pressure came back on and after a couple of minor errors in defence and Datchworth being called back after looking like getting a chance from a quickly taken 22 drop out Hemel crashed over again but missed the difficult wide conversion to re take the lead. Soon after Datchworth had some sustained attacks and when awarded a penalty James Hunter again slotted the kick to make the game 10 -10, however sadly for Datch time ran out for their continued attacks to result in the needed score and having scored two tries to one Hemel progress.

James Hunter picked up a deserved man of the match award and TJ Woods collected the Champagne moment for yet another crunching one on one tackle, Charlie Fullbrook was also commended for a similar committed tackle.

Next week the u15’s travel to London Welsh.
