Hertford B u15's v Datchworth u15's

The u15’s made it 5 from 5 with 5 bonus points on Sunday by winning their final league game against Hertford B 10 – 24.

Datchworth were missing 4 players which meant a new look team with some boys helping the side in unfamiliar positions, so it was especially satisfying that the team managed to get the win against a good Hertford side who were very keen to get one over on their local rivals.

Despite the perfect conditions Datchworths handling wasn’t as clinical as usual and the opening exchanges were tight, Datchworth might have scored when George Little plucked a ball out of the air in a trademark interception and raced clear to be hauled down by a covering Herford player.

The deadlock was broken when Aindrui Captain – Ritchie making his first start for Datch latched onto a loose ball creating a turnover for the try Machine Dominic Lant to finish in the corner. Again it was Captain-Ritchie turning the ball over and from the resulting breakdown Charlie Fullbrook picked up and went through the middle to score under the posts. When Arron King scored and Hunter added his second conversion Datch looked like the game was done and the bonus point would come but Hertford came back.

A catch and drive from a lineout then a charge down bringing the game to a slightly nervy 10 – 19 score line with Hertford coming back but the game was sealed with a well finished try with the ever threatening Theo Wise racing over in the corner to round off a great season.

Daniel Calvert earned the man of the match award for a fine defensive effort at outside centre, and the champagne moments were awarded to TJ for another try saving tackle, a feature of the season and Christopher Saunders for an athletic chase back, then collecting the ball under pressure and mounting a counter attack.
