The u15’s travelled to Enfield Ignations and secured a well earned 17 -5 win.
Ignations sitting in a promotion place in the league above had size advantage and plenty of pace but Datchworth kept them out until the final play of the game when the Ignations centre raced over from short distance.
Datchworth started the game quickly and were immediately on top keeping the opposition in their own 22 and when Ignations carried the ball the Datchworth defence put the ball carriers under pressure and created mistakes and turnovers.
James Hunter opened the scoring by slotting a penalty, then following sustained pressure Dominic Lant did well to get over the line wide on the left with Hunter then slotting a fine conversion for a 10-0 lead. Sadly then a 15 v 15 tussle resulted in a Red card for one of the Ignations players who might have been yellowed earlier for a high tackle.
Datchworth responded by stepping up the rugby and were rewarded by going up the field and Dominic Negri scoring the try ,sealing a man of the match performance, and again James Hunter converting. The Champagne moment went to Dominic Lant for recovering from a heavy hit and making a telling contribution to the side and scoring a try.
Next Sunday the U15’s host Saracens B, 1.00pm Kick off for what could be a league deciding game.
