A superb hard won victory for the Green Army today as they returned to their winning ways. The match was very close, but the Datchworth forward superiority meant that they rarely looked out of control in a tight game.
Datchworth dominated the early exchanges pushed hard and were rewarded for their effort with the first try. Letchworth then fought back and scored two quick tries, which it has to said had more to do with Datchworth poor awareness and tackling than with Letchworth handling.
Datchworth then regrouped and pushed hard again. The forwards drove hard up the pitch, but when the backs moved the ball, it somehow failed on two or three occasions to find the winger who could have walked it in. Eventually it did, and following an excellent touch line conversion, Datchworth reached half-time 14-10 up.
The match intensity increased in the second half and both sides pushed for an advantage. Datchworth were once again able to cross the line on the outside, and post a 9 point lead. On two or three occasions Datchworth forced their way over the try line, but somehow, in the eyes of the referee, were held up. Letchworth managed a converted score, to leave everyone on the touch line biting their nails!!
Datchworth managed to forced their way up the field and after hammering away at the Letchworth line for several minutes, eventually forced their way over.
Try as they might, Letchworth were unable to break a superb defensive effort from the boys in green, and Datchworth held out for a well earned and moral lifting win
Man of the Match was Alfie for a try scoring effort on the wing.
DotD was awarded to our head coach, Phil Nightingale, for a momentary lapse of sportsmanship which saw he shepherded away by his own players!!
